Students sell and shop for prom dresses
A used-dress event was held March 13 at the Perham Area Community Center. The event was created and organized by Pam Hoekstra and Doreen Nelson, who said that they were pleased with how the event went.
There was a wide selection of sparkling gowns, jewelry and accessories.
Hoekstra said that the area needed an event like this because new dresses can be expensive.
"This event isn't to make money," she said. "It's to help out the girls in the community to get a dress for prom."
Hoekstra and Nelson said that they were hoping for 75 dresses for the event, but ended up having 106. Dresses came from all over, including Perham, Breck, Wadena, Barnesville, Battle Lake, Lake Park, Ottertail, Henning and more.
Shoppers also came from throughout the region. A foreign exchange student from Germany living in the Lake Park-Audubon area purchased a dress, Hoekstra said.
