Homark Homes moves into former Hilltop building

Sam Benshoof/FOCUS Homark Homes, based in Red Lake Falls, Minn., has moved into the former Hilltop Homes building in New York Mills.

The former Hilltop Homes building in New York Mills, which has been closed since 2010, now has a new occupant.

Homark Homes, based in Red Lake Falls, Minn., has recently moved in to start up business in NY Mills.

Homark specializes in modular, manufactured homes, both singlewide and doublewide in many different designs. Homes are built weather-protected in the Red Lake Falls factory.

Sales Manager Roger Anderson, who comes to NY Mills from Bemidji, said that area residents should be excited about the kind of homes that Homark makes.

"We make different styles, different designs," he said. "The homes come factory-direct, and that will be big savings for customers."

While many factories will build houses in just one way, Anderson pointed to Homark's custom design as a characteristic of the company.

Highlighting Homark's ability to customize a home, Anderson told a story of a customer coming to Homark with a rough design drawn on a napkin. Homark then helped to make that design a reality, Anderson said.

Jack Bishop, who started with Hilltop Homes back in 1983, was asked by Homark to stay on as a consultant.

Hilltop Homes changed hands several times over the years before closing in November of 2010, and Bishop said he's excited to see a company like Homark come in.

"These guys take pride in their work," he said. "It's very exciting to see this. Their product is very, very quality."

Anderson said he, like all of Homark employees, takes pride in the service he provides to his customers.

"The thing that excites me the most is seeing people light up when they get the keys to that new home," he said.

Kevin Harmoning, Homark's president of operations, said that the company is excited about moving into the NY Mills area.

"We're looking forward to working in that particular direction, as we have not been in that market for a while," he said. "We're excited to have Roger and jack working for us."

A grand opening event is scheduled for the third week of September, though no official date has been set yet.

According to Anderson, a new model home should be arriving to the lot in a matter of days. Two other homes are expected to arrive before the end of the season.

Although the property still has the old Hilltop sign, Anderson hopes to get it changed as soon as possible. Homark is located at 120 527th Avenue in NY Mills, and can be reached at 218-385-2330.
