Over 375 students to tour 5 manufacturing facilities on Saturday

Manufacturers in the lakes area will be hosting the 2013 Tour of Manufacturing on Saturday. Five local companies will be opening their doors for free guided tours, information on their companies and open houses. From 9 am to 1 pm BTD Manufacturing, Bergen’s Greenhouses, Forum Communication Printing, Lakeshirts andTEAM Industries in Audubon will be showcased.

In addition to Saturday’s public tours, these companies are welcoming over 375 students from 10 area schools to tour their facilities on Friday, April 12th . Vern Schnathorst, School-to-work Coordinator for the DL School District said, “ This is a great way for students to connect classroom work to real life jobs. It also shows what opportunities are available right here close to home.” Students taking the tour will also be participating in a learning lunch at the DL campus of MState.

Saturday’s tours are free and open to the public. Each tour will take approximately 30 minutes. Tour guides will explain what their company makes, offer information on employment and answer your questions. Please be sure to dress for safety: shorts, skirts, open toed shoes or high-heels will not be allowed. Safety glasses and earplugs will be provided if needed.

Need help with transportation? A free shuttle bus is available in the Lakeshirts parking lot to help those with transportation needs to get to all 5 locations.

This event is also sponsored by West Central Initiative, Tri-state Manufacturer’s Association, Rural MN CEP, MState, Lakes Country Service Cooperative, the City of Detroit Lakes Development Authority, The Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce and Dream It Do It.

If you are looking for employment, this event is a great way to make connections and see first-hand what the work environment is like. The Detroit Lakes office of Rural MN CEP will also be hosting a job fair on April 18th 4-6:00pm. More information on the job fair and employment opportunites are available by calling 218-846-7377.
