“This has been in the making, officially, since June (of last year), but it’s been a dream for a long time,” said Britt Nelson as she took a short break during a sneak peek opening of Brew Ales and Eats last Thursday.

Brew, Perham’s newest bar, is a joint business venture between Nelson and her fiancé, Alex Belquist.

“I love the variety,” said one man at the sneak peek, Daryl Kowitz of Perham, as he sipped one of Brew’s myriad tap beers. “This place is going to do dynamite – I have no doubt.”

Brew officially opened to the public on Monday.

Nelson and Belquist are planning a grand opening celebration for sometime in the near future – after things have been “running for a while,” according to Nelson.

As of last Thursday, the building itself was mostly finished, although “a ton” of artwork was still en route, Nelson said.

Currently, Brew’s food menu consists of hors d’oeuvres, but Nelson and Belquist plan to serve a full menu soon. They also offer a full bar, with a wide variety of beer.

“We’re going to feature as may local beers as we can,” Nelson said.

Someday, “we would love to have our own beer,” she added.

“It’s a great addition to downtown Perham,” said Dan Schroeder of the Perham Chamber of Commerce. “I’m looking forward to years and years of bringing people downtown.”
