Upgrades at PACC to begin in June

The Perham Area Community Center will soon be getting some upgrades.

Users of the PACC should be aware that the Field House will be closed from the first week of June through part of July while the ceiling is redone.

The ceiling’s vapor barrier has deteriorated over the years, making it “no longer safe or efficient,” according to Kevin Nelson, director of the PACC.

The upgrades will take care of this problem.

The project will cost about $150,000, according to Nelson. Those funds will come from monies set aside in long-term capital accounts.

Sometime after the ceiling work is finished, the Field House flooring will also be upgraded.

That project will be at least partially funded through donations.

In February these projects, as part of a larger construction plan that included an addition at the PACC, were written into a bonding bill that would have appropriated money from the state to cover the costs, but that bill never made it to fruition.

Without those appropriations, the expansion plans have been set aside, but Nelson said the fixes to the ceiling and floor are still timely and need to be done.
