Council to address wastewater concerns at special meeting

As anyone who’s been in Perham over the last couple weeks has undoubtedly noticed, the foul odor from the wastewater treatment center has been strong – and doesn’t seem to be going away.

The city is currently working on a major expansion at the treatment plant, which holds the promise of fixing the odor problem for good. The construction work is unfortunately running behind schedule, and as the weather warms, the odor persists.

The city has been adding extra chemicals to the lagoons in hopes of lessening the problem, and continues to work with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency on this issue.

To address resident concerns and answer any questions the public may have, the Perham City Council will be holding an informal, informational session about the treatment plant at its next regular monthly meeting, on Monday, June 10, at 5:15 p.m. in the council chambers.
