Some classics never go out of style: 21st annual Perham Cruisers Car Show July 14

FOCUS file photo About 100 cars are expected to be on display at this year’s Classic Car Show in Perham.

The 21st annual Perham Area Cruisers Classic Car Show will take place at the East Otter Tail County Fairgrounds on Sunday, July 14 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Admission is three dollars for adults – seniors and children under 12 get in for free – and a free “dash plaque” will be given to the first 100 attendees.

The show will feature food on site and a silent auction with some “very, very nice stuff,” said co-organizer Wayne Larson.

Auctioned items last year included model cars, quilts, paintings, T-shirts, and “just about anything you can imagine” – all of which were donated by local businesses and Perham Cruisers members.

All profits from the event will be given back to the community through donations to the food shelf and other charity organizations.

Larson expects roughly 100 cars to enter the show, up from 30 in the event’s early years, and several hundred attendees.

Any car can enter the show, Larson explained.

“We had a vehicle a few years ago that came in and there was rust and the paint was about 81 different colors, but he had put a sign up that it works. It’s anything from what they call a ‘rat rod’ to a beautiful, beautiful car” in the show, he said, adding that “we enjoy all cars of all makes, all styles, and we welcome all.”

Vehicles entered in the show will compete for 17 trophies. Trophy sponsors will award the trophies according to whatever criteria “hits their fancy,” Larson said. “I’ve been doing this now for four or five years, and I have never, ever not had a good time. It’s family-oriented, there’s a little something there for everybody.”
