‘Dancing With the Stars’ returns to Perham this month

Dancing With the Stars is returning to Perham, and the names of this year’s celebrity dancers have been announced.

The show, a local spin-off of the popular TV show of the same name, is an annual fundraiser for the East Otter Tail County Relay for Life.

According to Lisa Peterson, a leading organizer of the show, this year’s “stars” and their partners (who are in most cases local dance students) will include:

-Attorney Steve Peloquin with dance partner Maggie Rennicke.

-Heart of the Lakes Principal Jen Hendrickson with partner Tristan Watchorn.

-Perham Cross Country Coach Jeff Morris and partner Megan McCrary.

-New York Mills Community Promoter Amy Wallgren and partner, Perham Mayor Tim Meehl.

-Perham Area Community Center Director Kevin Nelson and partner Sarah Wendt.

-2013 Relay For Life Honorary Co-Chair Kathy Wouters and partner Terry Lee.

Peterson said the dancers have already been practicing for the big event, “and everyone is excited and energized and ready to do a great show!”

The show will be held at the Perham High School auditorium on Saturday, March 22 at 7 p.m.

Audience members will be able to vote for their favorite dance pair, as many times as they wish, for $1 per vote.

The couple with the most dollars in their jar at the end of the night will win the People’s Choice award. There will also be a Judges’ Choice award.

Tickets will be $5 and may be purchased at the door or in advance from the Perham Chamber or various Perham businesses.

Money raised at the event will go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of East Otter Tail County, to help fund cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services.

The relay will be held July 11 at the Perham High School track. The Relay Committee has set a fundraising goal of $90,000.
