Celebrate Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24

Every year, between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, there's a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the nation.

Known as Small Business Saturday, it was first celebrated in 2010 as a way to encourage holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar small and local businesses.

A perfect opportunity to spend those Perham Bucks at local retailers, some stores around town will be offering special sales and deals in recognition of the day.

Buying local has a positive affect on the local economy. According to information from the Perham Chamber, $73 of every $100 spent at a locally owned business stays in the local economy. That money is recirculated over and over and creates up to 75 percent more tax revenue for the local community and state.

Small Business Saturday was conceived and originally promoted by American Express in response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which emphasize big-box and online retailers.
