The tenth annual Friends-of-Friends Fighting Hunger event was a grand success. Held at Thumper Pond, nearly 170 guests joined together to support the mission of fighting to end hunger in Otter Tail County.

When asked why Friends of Friends is important to her, committee member Karalyn Harrington shared, "The Friends-of-Friends event culminates months of preparation and involvement of community members and businesses. During the event, there is a blend of fun and humor along with the underlying seriousness of purpose. Gary and I personally value contributing to the backpack program to give children food over weekends as well as to help stock our area food shelves. We encourage others to join the Friends-of-Friends committee to work with a special team of people to make a positive difference."

Through the generosity and cooperation of the community, the event netted $84,553.60.

Hunger is an ongoing issue affecting the well-being of our entire community. Proceeds from the event will help provide food to nearly 430 children in Otter Tail County through the Weekend Feeding Backpack Program and seven emergency food shelves in Otter Tail County and the Wadena food shelf. In 2017, North Country Food Bank distributed 714,061 pounds of food for people in need in Otter Tail County.

United Way of Otter Tail and Wadena Counties serves as a partner and fiscal host to the Friends-of-Friends. United Way's mission is to improve lives in Otter Tail and Wadena Counties by mobilizing the caring powers in the community.
