HAWLEY, Minn. - Firefighters dealt with frigid temperatures as they battled a barn fire that killed 12 cows this morning in rural Hawley.
The Hawley, Hitterdal and Ulen volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze, which was reported about 3:30 a.m. at 11149 210th St. N.
Crews had the fire under control by 5:45 a.m., WDAY-TV reported. The barn was destroyed.
Six cows and six calves died in the fire.
A state fire marshal is expected to arrive today to investigate the cause of the fire.
