24 ticketed during snow emergency in Perham
Two dozen parking tickets were issued around Perham during last week’s snow storms.
The 24 tickets were issued to vehicles parked on the street during a snow emergency, violating a city parking ordinance.
Under the snow emergency ordinance, which was passed in November of 2011, all vehicles must be parked off of the streets when two or more inches of snow falls, and must stay off the street until the snow has been cleared.
The number of tickets is down compared to last winter’s first storm, which was in late January. At that time, 39 cars were cited in one night.
Perham Police Chief Jason Hoaby said he is pleased that more people are abiding by the ordinance and remembering to park off of the street.
“For the most part, people who were ticketed said they didn’t know about the rule,” said Hoaby.
Reminders about the ordinance were posted on the City of Perham Government’s Facebook page, and will continue through the winter. Official notices of snow emergencies are also posted on the city’s website.
The public can also call the police department if internet is not available.
