6A Softball playoffs: No. 2 NY Mills takes on No. 3 Lake Park-Audubon
The second round of Section 6A-North softball playoffs continue today, Thursday, May 24, in Menahga. The opening game pits No. 1 seed Sebeka versus No. 4 Frazee at 2 p.m. No. 2 NY Mills will play in the later game scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. against No. 3 seed Lake Park-Audubon.
The winners will face off in a 6 p.m. match-up.
Neither match-up occurred in the regular season and will provide a first look for all four teams at their opponent.
Sebeka holds the top spot in the sub-section with a regular season record of 17-4. The Trojans are 13-1 in Section 6 play. Their only loss to a 6A team was a 7-6 defeat to 6A South No. 3 seed Parkers Prairie on May 15. The loss was the only defeat in the Trojans' last 11 games.
Sebeka advanced by way of a 20-0 rout of Nevis in the opening round.
Frazee is 6-1 in Section play and 12-7 overall. The Hornets have won seven straight, their last loss coming to Menahga, by a score of 10-0 on May 12. Frazee defeated Pine River-Backus 7-5 to advance.
NY Mills defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley handily 16-5 to advance out of the first round. The Eagles have won five of six to end the season. NY Mills lost their season finale at 6A-South No. 1 seed Pillager 12-8.
Lake Park-Audubon has won six of seven games, losing last on May 15 to Bagley 6-1. The Raiders average scoring four runs less than NY Mills and will have an uphill battle to stay close to the high-scoring Eagles.
The majority of the Raiders regular season schedule occurs out of Section 6. Their only two section games this season were an 8-5 win over Menahga in Audubon Tuesday to advance to this round and an 11-1 defeat at Frazee April 10.
Today's first game is an elimination game and concludes single elimination play. Double elimination begins in the late game when both sub-sections are down to two teams each.
The final four teams in the south sub-section feature games between: No. 1 Pillager versus No. 4 Brandon-Evansville; No. 7 Ashby versus No. 3 Parkers Prairie. Both games will be played in Brandon.
Final four play will continue Tuesday, May 29 in Brandon and Menahga.
