7th grade football: Pelican Rapids 20, Perham 6
The Perham 7th grade football team traveled to Pelican Rapids for a tussle with the Pelican Rapids Vikings.
The Jackets received the opening kick-off and were able to put together a solid, time consuming, opening drive. Unfortunately, the Jackets were not able to put points on the board. A fourth down pass just missed a Jacket receiver resulting in a turnover on downs.
Pelican Rapids, behind some tough running and a few missed tackles, were able to score before the half and had an 8-0 advantage heading into quarter number three.
The second half opened with the Vikings scoring on their first possession. A fumble on the ensuing kickoff resulted in another Viking's touchdown making the score 20-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Jackets were able to put a nice driving together late in the game, scoring on a 30 yard touchdown pass, making the final score 20-6.
This was the first game of the 2012 season for the young Jackets. The boys gave good effort throughout the game. They are excited to get back on the field next week with road games at Frazee and Detroit Lakes.
