8AA state championship matchup: Perham versus Rochester Lourdes

Today's AA state championship game features the Perham Yellowjackets (30-1) from Section 8 versus the Rochester Lourdes Eagles (24-7) of Section 1.

The Eagles defeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 45-37 in opening round action and advanced to the title game after a four overtime marathon victory over Redwood Valley, 48-42.

The Yellowjackets cruised in their opening round match-up with Virginia winning by 17 points, 57-40. The semifinal round pitted Perham against a defensive-minded squad from Waterville-Elysian-Morristown. Perham was victorious in double overtime, 45-41.

Senior forward Alex Kapraun and senior center Shane McGrath lead the Eagles scoring 14.0 and 11.6 points per game respectively.

The Yellowjackets are led by Nick Tobkin's 12.4 ppg and Mark Schumacher's 11.6 ppg. Tobkin led the Yellowjackets in the semifinals scoring 14 points. Schumacher was right behind him with 10.

Perham is 2-0 in their two only games at the state tournament in school history. Rochester Lourdes is making their third state appearance, first since 2000.

The Eagles average 52.7 ppg and average giving up 45.9. The Yellowjackets score 65.7 per game while allowing only 39.6.
