ACS announces 2009 scholarship winners
Twenty-three high school students within the Arvig Communication Systems (ACS) service area have been selected to receive academic scholarships from the Royale B. and Eleanor M. Arvig Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Each student will receive $750 per year, over four years, for a total of $3,000. This scholarship fund, which is sponsored by ACS, is awarded to students who demonstrate achievements and interest in numerous fields. These include math, engineering, telecommunications, accounting, computer science, or any of the physical sciences.
In 1950, Royale Arvig began serving the Perham area with telephone service. His goal in purchasing the telephone company was not only to continue to provide the services available, but also to introduce the newest services to the rural community. This drive to provide technological opportunity to our region embodies the goals of ACS today.
Civic leadership and a belief in the value of higher education governed how Royale Arvig operated his business until his death in 1975. His philosophy was that our world is based on communities - not businesses. The Royale B. and Eleanor M. Arvig Memorial Scholarship Fund celebrates this philosophy. In order to thrive as individual businesses, we need to focus on building the whole community. ACS has identified the importance of focusing on youth and education.
On behalf of Royale and Eleanor Arvig and their children, Donna Ward, Allen Arvig, and Janice Theodorson, ACS is proud to present this year's Royale B. and Eleanor M. Arvig Memorial Scholarship Awards to:
