Active Living Committee schedules first meeting
An Active Living Committee is forming to promote active and healthy practices through community design that will help make Perham a healthier place to live, work and play. The committee is the result of a community input meeting held on May 4 by the city of Perham, the Perham Area Community Center and the Statewide Health Improvement Program.
The Active Living Committee will meet on Tuesday, June 29, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Perham City Council Chambers. This committee is an advisory committee to Perham's Parks and Recreation Board and open to the public.
Topics will include: learning about active living principles for communities, developing goals, planning citywide walking/biking audits and promoting activities such as Bike or Walk to Work Week (August 23-27) and more.
This committee is part of the work of the Statewide Health Improvement Program co-sponsored by the Becker, Clay, Otter Tail and Wilkin Counties. The Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP), an integral part of Minnesota's nation-leading 2008 health reform law, strives to help Minnesotans lead longer, healthier lives by preventing the chronic disease risk factors of tobacco use and exposure, poor nutrition and physical inactivity.
SHIP seeks to create sustainable, systemic changes in schools, worksites, communities and health care organizations that make it easier for Minnesotans to incorporate healthy behaviors into their daily lives.
Anyone (all ages and abilities) is invited to join. Please RSVP to Karen Nitzkorski at email@example.com or 701-371-9644.
