Alice Ann Goodwater
Alice Ann Goodwater, 79, of Park Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 at her home.
She was born Dec. 22, 1929 to Charles and Lydia (Mueller) Wiskur in Elkton, S.D. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then attended Elkton High School in Elkton, S.D.
She married Floyd Goodwater on May 16, 1962. The couple lived in Elkton, S.D. for a period of time where they owned and operated a plumbing business. They eventually moved to Wisconsin where they continued with the plumbing business. In 1963, they moved to Kenyon, where they operated a small restaurant until moving to Park Rapids in 1965. She took on many jobs including working at a turkey processing plant, at a milk factory, at a nursing home, Carter Ringer Coat Manufacturing and as a laundry aid at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she worked until her retirement.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids and also a member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by seven daughters: Sandy (Darryl) Huebner of Rockford, Mich., Karen Overholt, of Park Rapids, Bonnie (Cecil) Campbell, of Detroit Lakes, Barb (George) Rocksandich, of Stephens City, Va., Bev (Dale) Schmitz, of Detroit Lakes, Becky (Garrett) Sumstad, of Dassel, and Dawn (Dwayne) Peterson, of Park Rapids; three sons: Paul (Rosie) West, of St. Louis, Mo., Randy (Jackie), of Park Rapids, and Chuck, of Park Rapids; two sisters: Darlene (Wayne) Ward, of Brookings, S.D., and Marlene (Gordon) Bruening, of Elkton, S.D.; a sister-in-law, Bev Wiskur, of San Diego, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Cliff (Lydia), of Motley; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a brother, Clarence Wiskur; and a son-in-law, Tom Overholt.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. today (Saturday), Jan. 31 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, with Rev. Ken Nyhusmoen officiating. Roz Pederson will be the accompanist. Bill and Jan Lundsten will sing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "On the Wings of a Snow White Dove."
Visitation: From noon until the time of service on Saturday.
