Amateur Baseball: Dent wins Countryside title
The Fergus Falls Hurricanes may have won the Countryside League regular season title, but the Dent Wildcats proved to be the best team in the league.
Dent handed Fergus Falls their only two regular season losses this summer. And just to prove it wasn't a fluke, the 'Cats beat Fergus Falls two more times in the Countryside playoffs, including a 10-2 win in the semifinals last week, and a 6-4 win in the league's championship game Sunday.
Wildcat pitcher Brock Collins shut down the 'Canes offense, scattering nine hits and allowing three earned runs while striking out 10 batters. He also helped at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Hurricanes scored single runs in each of the first three innings for a 3-2 lead. Dent tied the game in the fourth and scored twice in the sixth to take the lead.
Brandon Fritz was one of three Dent batters with two hits. He was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Steve Branby was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI and Jeff Ronning drove in a run and scored a run. Isaac Stoll went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs.
Fergus Falls also will advance to the Region 16C Tournament, as does Hawley as the league's wild card.
