Despite leaving the bases loaded in four different innings, and committing four errors, the Perham Pirates beat the Dent Wildcats, 4-3, in the 38th Annual July 4th game at Krueger Field thanks to a fine pitching performance by Tyler Doll.

Doll would go the full nine innings for the Pirates, allowing one earned run.

Perham started the scoring in the bottom of the first when Andy Kratzke followed a pair of walks with a two-run double.

The Wildcats struck back in the top of the second, taking advantage of a could of Pirate errors to tie the game, 2-2. Dent then took a brief 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by Isaac Stoll.

The Pirates tied the game in the fourth when Justin Berns delivered a bloop two-out single. Perham took the lead for good in the sixth. Ryan Enger led off the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a stolen base. Doll then reached on an error to put runners on first and third. Doll attempted a steal and ended up caught in a run-down between first and second when Enger dashed for home, scoring the go-ahead run. Doll was eventually tagged out trying to get all the way to third base on the play.

The win for Perham does not count in the HI-10/Countryside league standings. The league game between the two teams was played on May 24, a 5-2 win for the Wildcats. The July 4 game was an exhibition.

The loss for the Cats was their third straight. They lost to Hawley, 7-4, on July 1, then dropped a 5-3 game to Vergas on July 3.

After struggling through the mid-point of their season, the Vergas Loons have turned things around. The Loons have now won four in a row, with three coming last week. They beat New York Mills, 11-6 on July 1, then after taking care of the Wildcats Friday night, Vergas took on Dent's other team, the Bulldogs on Sunday, and won, 11-0.
