Amateur Baseball: Wolf Lake rallies for win
Tyler Doll tossed seven innings of five-hit ball, but it wasn't enough as the Wolf Lake Wolf Pack beat the Pirates, 3-2, in the annual Turtle Fest game Saturday night at Krueger Field.
Doll was flawless for six innings, alowing just four Wolf Pack runners to reach base. He ran into trouble in the seventh when he gave up three hits and three runs, as the Pack came from behind to win.
The Pirates only managed five hits, with two of them coming from Doll.
Perham scored once in the fifth when Shane Miller came in on an errant throw. In the sixth, David Krueger scored when Doll took a bases loaded walk.
The Pirates left 10 runners on in the loss.
Pirates roll Flames 12-2
The Perham Pirates won consecutive games for the first time this year Wednesday night with a 12-2 win over the Frazee Flames.
The Pirates started the night with a five run first inning and never relinquished the lead. Ryan Enger led off with a single and after a ground out, the Pirates added four-straight singles and one more RBI single with two outs in the inning.
They then added three runs in the third with singles by Matt Schornack, herschel Masinas, and Miller. They added two runs in both the fourth and the fifth.
The Flames tried to mount a comeback, but only managed two runs in the sixth and stranded three in the seventh before losing by the 10-run rule.
Eric Weller pitched 6 strong innings for the Pirates, allowing just two runs. Schornack was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Brad Ellingson and Weller were each 2-for-3.
'Cats schedule change
The Dent Wildcats game against Vergas scheduled for July 8 has been moved up. They will now take on the Loons on Friday, July 3 in Dent at 7:30 p.m.
On the field this week, the Wildcats destroyed their new in-town rivals, the Bulldogs, 16-0.
Matt Richter and Jeff Ronning each had two hits to lead the 'Cat attack. Ryan Hendrickson and Brock Collins each had three RBI.
Brandon Fritz picked up the win, going all seven innings while allowing just two hits and striking out 11.
On Sunday, the Wildcats had a 1-0 lead over Pelican Rapids after and inning and a half when the game was called due to rain. It will resume on July 18 as part of a day-night doubleheader in Dent.
All-Star Game in Dent
The annual amateur baseball All-Star game featuring the best players from the HI-10 and Countryside Leagues taking on the top players from the Lake and Pine League.
The game will be played on Friday, June 26 at Jake Wolford Field in Dent.
Festivities begin at 7 p.m. with a home run hitting contest. The Al-Star game will follow at 8 p.m.
Gate fee for the event is $3 for adults and $1 for children 12 & under.
