Former Maplewood, Minn., resident Ambrose J. Zurn, 63, of Forest Lake, Minn., died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the Bay Front Blues Festival in Duluth, Minn.
Ambrose was born to Ambrose and Lucy Zurn on Nov. 11, 1944 in Callaway, and grew up on the family farm on the White Earth Indian Reservation. He was proud to be a member of Local No.132 and a 42-year, dedicated employee of Adolfson & Peterson Construction Company.
Some of Ambrose's special interests were riding his Harley Davidson, hunting with family, tending to his hobby chickens, giving the eggs to his friends and family, doing home repair, remodeling and casting cement lawn ornaments.
Surviving Ambrose were his wife, Sheila (Connelly Downham) Zurn; children, Lisa (Greg) Kauls (and her mother, former wife of Ambrose, Pam), Michael Downham, Melanie (Steve) Hermann and Sheila (Mark) Claeson; eight grandchildren (and one more who is anxiously awaited); siblings, Ray (Bert) Zurn, Shirley Newell (Pete) Jackson, Donna (Don) Adams, Mary (Carl) Schnathorst, Ruth (Clay) Atwell, Richard (Judy) Zurn, Betty (Lynn) Thompson, Linda (Gene) Walz and Gordon (Joann) Zurn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, other extended family, special friends and traveling partners, Royce and Heidi Kantola.
Preceding Ambrose in death were his parents; and brothers Vernie and Clarence Zurn.
A celebration of Ambrose's life is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the Zurn residence, 21155 Fondant Ave. North, Forest Lake. Family will greet friends from 2-8 p.m. Friday at their home. The family has requested also for friends to wear their Harley apparel and please ride their motorcycles to the service in memory of Ambrose. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred by the family.
