The tournament will host 50 teams of three anglers, one adult and two young anglers 17 years old or younger. The winning local team will win a Lund boat, motor and trailer and the right to advance to the International Championship AYA tournament to be held at Kenora, Ontario. Winners from thirty U.S. and Canadian tournaments will compete for over $25,000 in prizes at the international event.

Every young angler in the local tournament will be a winner as they will receive participation trophies, AYA T-shirts, as well as fishing gear. The teams will also receive snacks, a lunch and an awards banquet following the tournament day of fishing.

Hoot's Sports is excited about bringing this unique opportunity to our area. The tournament, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and headquarter out of Zorbaz on Little Pine Lake.

The purpose of the tournament is to excite young people about fishing and introduce them to the fun of tournament fishing while learning a lifetime sport. This will be a "live" tournament and all fish will be returned to the lake following the weigh-in. Each youth explores the water with an experienced angler, in search of the right combination of 5 walleye needed to take first place. In order to expand the exposure of youth fishing, there is a complete television special produced each year featuring these events.

Having the tournament format with an adult angler with youth anglers gives the young angler the opportunity to experience and learn what competitive sport angling is all about.

The Angler & Young Angler Fishing Tournament continues to grow with 30 regional events this year wrapping the season up with the International Championship on beautiful Lake of the Woods at Kenora, Ontario.

If you are interested in participating in this years AYA tournament in Perham a limited number of spots are still open. Call Linda Kunz at Hoots Sports 346-3333 or check out Hoots website at www.hootssports.com.
