Funeral services were held for Anna (Janke) Jokela, 85, of Perham, MN on Friday, July 10, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham with Pastor Carl Noble officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation accompanied by Dale Lubitz. Special music was provided by Ann Dardis. The pallbearers were all of Anna's sons. Anna was laid to rest in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Evergreen, MN.
Anna Bertina (Janke) Jokela was born on November 23, 1923 at home in Runeberg Township, rural Menahga, MN, to John and Ruth (Johnson) Eklund. She grew up and attended country school in Runenberg Township. On April 11, 1941, Anna was united in marriage to Howard Janke. They resided in Detroit Lakes, MN and farmed in Evergreen from 1945 to 1973. They also owned and operated the South Shore Resort in Toad Lake from 1966 to 1974. Howard passed away on July 29, 1969. On May 7, 1972, Anna was united in marriage to Walter "Wally" Jokela. They resided on the farm in Evergreen for one year before moving into Perham in 1973. Wally passed away March 7, 1983.
Anna always enjoyed the farm, even with all of the hard work. She also enjoyed gardening, her flowers, cooking and baking. She especially loved taking care of her children; she was proud of them all. Anna resided at St. James Manor in Perham. Since October of 2005, Anna made her home at the Perham Memorial Home. She passed away at the Perham Memorial Home on July 5, 2009, at 85 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding Anna in death were her parents; husbands, Howard and Walter; brother, Alvin Eklund; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Janke; grandson, Troy Janke; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Johnson and Rhianna Janke.
Anna is survived by her daughters, Roslyn (Dale) Lubitz of Frazee, Diane Arthurs of Perham and Joan Ehlers of Champlin; her sons, Warren Janke of New York Mills, Calvin (Faye) Janke of Battle Lake, Randall (Violet) Janke of McGregor, Howard (Joan) Janke of Brainerd, Keith (Betty) Janke of Frazee, Jeffery (Chris) Janke of Frazee, and Arden (Emily) Janke of Zimmerman; sisters, Mabel Hoogveld of Perham and Myrtle Marjama of Butte, MT; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and host of friends.
