Anna W. Rock (Omaayawibiikwe), 90, of Waubun, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.
She was born May 19, 1918 in Cass Lake to Dan G. and Mary (Dunn) White. She was raised in the Leech Lake area.
She married Reuben Rock on Dec. 31, 1934. They made their home in White Earth where her husband was the priest at Breck Memorial Episcopal Church in Ponsford. She was baptized at the Episcopal Church in Pine Point. She was a member there until her husband died. She later moved to Waubun.
She was employed by the White Earth Band as a community health worker for many years. She retired but missed work so much she came out of retirement and worked until she was 79 years old.
She was a member of the Ojibwe singers. She was a member of the White Earth elders and attended elders conferences.
She is survived by five children: Samuel, of Waubun, John (Hanna), of Bemidji, Mary Rose (Andrew) Favorite, of Waubun, Stella E., of St. Paul, and Anna (Tom) Magoris, of Park Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grand-children.
She is preceded in death by her husband; two sons: Reuben and Melvin; two grandchildren: Jennifer and Robert M. Rock; two great-grandsons: Joshua Hooker and Travis Lloyd Rock; three brothers; and one sister.
Funeral service: Monday, Feb. 9 at Old Pine Point School in Ponsford.
