Autism/ADHD workshop set for May 22 at Perham library; register today

Autism Spectrum Disorder is characterized by an individual’s difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. It affects an estimated one in 50 American children.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which is now one of the most common childhood disorders, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, is characterized by difficulty focusing and paying attention, as well as hyperactivity and impulsivity.

The Perham Area Public Library will be the location of a workshop on autism and ADHD on Wednesday, May 22 from 6-8 p.m.

The class will look at the early warning signs and symptoms of autism and ADHD. It will provide parents, daycare providers, caregivers and teachers helpful tips about working with children with these diagnoses or symptoms. It will also provide information about services offered within the community to assist children in success.

Presenter Angie Heng, a mental health practitioner with Solutions Behavioral Healthcare, will answer questions about children of all ages, from birth through high school.
