A rare opportunity to kick up your feet to a genuine big band is March 8, as the Perham Area Community Center is transformed into a swing-era ballroom.
Ballroom and swing dance lessons have been a popular addition to the PACC schedule this winter. Those students will be able try out their new "moves" to the sounds of a live band. The public, young and old and entire families, are invited for the special event.
The PACC and members of the nationally recognized Healthways SilverSneakers Fitness Program, will be hosting a benefit dance for the American Heart Association on March 8, at the PACC gymnasium.
The evening will feature a 16-piece big band "Doc and the Scrubs" dance with ballroom and swing dance demonstrations by Leo and Janet Splonskowski and Tiffany and John Goering.
Free ballroom and swing dance lessons will be offered at 7 p.m.
The dance will go from 7-10 p.m. (please use north entrance). This is a non-alcoholic event. Concessions will be available. The major sponsor of the event is Medica Medicare Solutions and the Center for Healthy Aging. Additional sponsors of the event are local businesses and the American Heart Association.
"Doc and the Scrubs" was founded in 1991 by Dr. Bob Watson, and is comprised of area musicians, from age 20 to over 80. Their library includes music for all occasions, including big band, polka, pop and popular standards.
The event is $3 per person or $10 per family. It is open to the public. Donations will also be requested for the American Heart Association.
The Perham Area Community Center is able to offer older adults a way to increase their levels of physical activity while motivating them to remain active. SilverSneakers is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults and is available at no additional cost beyond the monthly premium to Medicare eligible members of Humana and Medica. The long-term health benefits of regular exercise for senior adults are compelling. In addition to helping seniors stay physically healthy, SilverSneakers also offers a great way for them to socialize, meet new friends, get fit and have fun.
