Baseball: Eagles set up for fourth straight Park Region title
PARKERS PRAIRIE — No. 7A New York Mills remained undefeated (13-0) with a doubleheader sweep of Parkers Prairie (2-10) Thursday in Park Region baseball action.
The Eagles did not allow a run in either game as Brandon Kupfer continues to pitch the year without having been scored upon.
The Eagle offense took six innings to get going in the opener but in crunch time New York Mills batted around for six last-inning runs for a 6-0 victory.
Dustin Gaudette started the rally with a lead-off triple and scored the winning run on a base hit by Dan Kraft.
The Panthers held the Eagles to seven hits, four coming in the seventh inning.
No matter; Kupfer pitched a two-hit, complete game shutout continuing his dominant senior season. One Panther batter, opposing pitcher Kyle Schlosser, reached second base after a double in the first inning and a base on balls in the fourth inning.
Number nine hitter Devin Glebe singled with one-out in the third for Parkers Prairie’s second hit. Glebe was picked off by Kupfer at first base.
Kupfer faced two over the minimum batters (23). He fanned eight and issued two walks to improve to 4-0 with an ERA of all zeroes.
The bats came alive in the nightcap giving starting pitcher Dan Kraft plenty of support in a 9-0 victory.
Kraft got the second Eagles’ complete game shutout pitching all seven innings, striking out and walking one, while pitching to contact allowing only five hits.
New York Mills scored nine runs on 12 hits. Tucker Skoblik had two RBI; Adam Patron, Kupfer, Tyler Patron, Gaudette, and Kraft all drove in a run.
Tyler Patron was 3-4 with a double and a walk. He scored twice. Nick and Brandon Kupfer both crossed home twice in the game.
New York Mills is 7-0, the only undefeated team in the Park Region Conference. Ottertail Central defeated Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 10-1 for the Raiders only blemish in Park Region play. The Eagles can wrap up a fourth consecutive conference crown next week.
