Baseball: Perham sweeps C-I to keep pace in conference

PERHAM — The No. 16-2A Perham Yellowjackets improved to 8-4, more importantly, kept pace in the Mid-State Conference race raising their record to 5-3 after a sweep of Crosby-Ironton (0-12, 1-12).

Perham scored in each of the six innings of the opening game en route to an 11-2 rout.

Jaden Meyer led the way going 4-4 with four RBIs.

CJ Mulcahy scored three times and hit safely three of four at-bats. Luke Sailer and J.T. Laughlin both had multi-hit games going 2-4 and scoring twice.

Laughlin pitched five innings for the victory giving up two earned runs on six hits. He struck out nine Rangers and walked one. Tanner Carlson pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Perham completed the sweep with an eight-run third inning on their way to a mercy-rule five inning 10-0 shutout in the night cap.

Laughlin was 2-3 scoring twice. Eight Yellowjackets got hits in the game: Sailer, Carlson and Joey Lindberg joining Laughlin with two-hit performances.

Josh Still fanned eight Rangers in five innings of work, allowing only a pair of hits. Still walked two batters, but faced only 19 Rangers at the plate.

Perham travels to Pequot Lakes Monday, May 20, where a sweep of the Patriots is needed to keep pace in the conference. Pequot Lakes is 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the Mid-State.
