Bemidji teacher arrested on sex crime charges
BEMIDJI -- A teacher at a Bemidji charter school has been arrested and faces sex crime charges.
Paul Johnson, 48, was arrested on Wednesday and faces charges of third degree criminal sexual conduct, according to records at the Beltrami County Jail.
Johnson is a math teacher at Voyageurs Expeditionary School in Bemidji and has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, according to the school.
In a statement, the school said: "Allegations of misconduct have been made against Mr. Paul Johnson, math instructor at Voyageurs Expeditionary School. These allegations require investigation by the school, law enforcement and the MN Department of Education. Mr. Johnson has been placed on unpaid administrative leave effective immediately."
School officials said they are cooperating with the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office in the investigation. Johnson has been with the school for five years.
