HERMAN, Minn. - A fundraiser is planned here on Sunday for a 2-month-old boy who was delivered by emergency C-section in June as his mother died.

Family and friends will host the benefit for Jace Jo Pederson, whose mother, Tami, collapsed and died from an aneurism while eight months pregnant.

Jamie Bertram, Tami's sister, says the mother-to-be was "helping out everyone, always happy bubbly."

Bertram says her sister was excited about the upcoming birth of Jace after being married to her husband, Trent Pederson, for two years.

Trent found Tami collapsed on the bathroom floor just hours after a perfect check up at the doctor. On the way to the hospital in Fergus Falls, she stopped breathing and paramedics incubated her and she was airlifted to Sanford Health in Fargo.

With the baby's heart rate quickly dropping, doctors delivered baby Jace with Tami on life support.

Because of the complications during delivery and suspected brain damage to Jace, who is still hospitalized, medical support could be required his whole life.

"Trent is a single dad now, just that financial burden is a lot," said Scott Libbesmeier, a benefit organizer.

The breakfast benefit will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Herman Fair Grounds. Donations are also being accepted at the bank in Herman and Gate City in Fergus Falls.

Herman is about 40 miles south of Fergus Falls.
