A six-run lead wasn't safe for neither the Detroit Lakes nor Perham Legion baseball teams Tuesday.

The Post 15 squad was the first to blow a 6-0 advantage after two innings, as the Buzz kept pecking into the deficit, before hitting the apex with a six-run fifth inning to win 10-6 in game one of a doubleheader in Perham Tuesday.

In the nightcap, it was the Lakers turn to bail out of a 6-0 hole after two innings, tying the game in the top of the fourth, but ultimately losing in the bottom of the seventh 7-6.

"Defensively, I was very frustrated," said DL head coach Mitch McLeod. "We made too many costly errors. But I thought each of our pitchers pitched well."

Despite fanning 13 Perham batters, DL lefty Ben Lindquist fell victim to a six-run fifth, which propelled Perham to the 10-6 win.

"Ben threw a lot of pitches in the mid-innings and that caught up with him," McLeod said. "Anytime that happens, you get tired and start leaving the ball up in the strike zone."

Post 15 feasted on brad Ellingson's pitches early, scoring four runs in the first after having their first four batters reach base on two singles and two walks.

Clean-up hitter third baseman T.J. Manning delivered a bases loaded, one-run single, after Jordan Manning led off with a single and Aaron Gnoinsky and Connor McLeod drew back-to-back walks.

Logan Baker recorded a sacrifice RBI to leftfield, while Andy Pederson cranked out an RBI single to leftfield for the 3-0 lead.

Nate Krohne added the team's second sacrifice fly of the inning as DL bolted out to a 4-0 margin.

In inning two, it was more of the same, with Jordan Manning starting the frame with a single to left.

A nicely executed bunt by Gnoinsky was followed by a two-out liner by Baker to score each of the two Post 15 runners on base.

"Jordan and Logan each had a good game at the plate," McLeod said.

But after the second, the game turned dramatically to the Buzz, as they picked up their first hit in the fourth, then proceeded to collected 10 more off of Lindquist.

Perham had RBI hits by Andrew Muer, Shawn Stafki and Jake Kalina to cut DL's lead in half in the fourth.

The Buzz put together four consecutive singles in the fifth, with Mac Link gaining a two-run one-bagger, to key the six-run frame.

Lindquist also struggled some with accuracy by walking two and hitting one batter in the inning.

"We just couldn't get the big hit after the second inning," the DL coach said.

Pederson went 2-2 with an RBI, while Baker was 2-3 with three RBIs.

Perham was led by Gavin Beigler's 3-3 day with an RBI, while Stafki was 2-3 with two RBIs.

Stafki also came in for relief of Ellingson and shut down the Lakers' bats, pitching for the win after allowing just three hits, no walks and striking out three.

The Lakers used a five-run fourth to knot the game at 6-6, after Perham notched four in the first and two in the second off of Jordan Manning, who had four walks in the first two frames.

"But after struggling in the first two innings, Jordan dominated the rest of the way through," McLeod said. "He started throwing his curves for strikes."

Perham had just one more hit the rest of the way, but won on two consecutive throwing errors by Post 15 in the bottom of the seventh.

Connor McLeod delivered a big two-run double in the fourth, while T.J. Manning followed with a two-run single.

Perham's ace Tyler Doll gave up nine hits to DL and had 12 strikeouts, while the Buzz had five.

"Errors just killed us, with Perham gaining just four earned runs in the game off of our four errors," McLeod said.

Post 15 (5-9) will play in Fergus Falls Thursday for a doubleheader, starting at 5 p.m.
