Pastor Dirk Currier and the church family of Northwoods Assembly will be conducting a Biggest Loser Challenge beginning on Memorial Day weekend and going through Labor Day weekend.
The inspiration came from the television show "The Biggest Loser" as well as a message preached on "losing the weight that slows us down..." found in the book of Hebrews. Although the scripture speaks of spiritual weights that need to be removed, our physical weight usually keeps people bound in the inability to do what they would like and a certain level of depression. By taking the Biblical approach of working together with a partner and a group, and by having a prize to work for, we plan on seeing some big changes in people, physically and spiritually, said Pastor Dirk.
Anyone can join the Challenge. You simply need a partner, a desire and an entry fee. Weighing will begin Memorial Day weekend and the winning team will win $500 with a $200 second place and a $100 third prize. The winning team will be based on percentage lost, so even if you only want to loose a little, you can still win.
To date, 20 couples have enlisted to join the challenge.
Church parishioners Kevin and Doreen Nelson will be conducting the weigh in. In addition to accountability partners and groups, there will be at least a once-a-month outing to promote exercise and health.
If you would like to learn more about the challenge, you can call the church office at 346-LIFE for more information.
