Blues advance to face Alex for Sub State championship

PERHAM — Fergus Falls and Moorhead battled to a six-all tie after seven innings before a big eighth for both clubs where Moorhead completed the comeback to advance to face Alexandria in the Sub State 14 finals by a final score of 12-9.

Noah Strom put Fergus Falls up 8-6 on a slicing double to the left field corner.

Preston Kraiter led off the bottom of the eighth reaching on an errant throw over the first base bag, taking second base and proceeding to third on a wild pitch. Jason England worked a walk from Strom to put runners on the corners. Zach Schroeder took a 1-1 pitch off the left shoulder to load the bags bringing up Mike Wiessman, who tied the game at eight on the first pitch with a two-RBI single.

Drew Anderson doubled to score Schroeder with the go-ahead run at 9-8 with nobody out.

After loading the bags again, Josh Noennig doubled to score two more runs and chase Strom from the game.

Michael Aasness inherited runners on second and third base and retired Jared Benson on a groundout and fanned Brett Erickson to bring Kraiter back to the plate to load the bags a third time. England worked the count putting Moorhead up 12-8 with a RBI walk.

Tyler Oberg pitched three innings of relief sealing the victory for the Blues. Moorhead scored nine of their 12 runs in their last two innings at the dish.

Jared Christenson led off the Fergus ninth with a single. Jake Lee flied to right. Aarhus walked. Josh Hanson popped up to second base where the ball was dropped but he was ruled out on an infield fly ruling by the umpire. Drew Pearson kept the game alive singling to score Christenson and pull Fergus Falls to within three runs 12-9. Shane Neumann bounced back to Oberg to end the game.

The teams combined for 21 runs and 31 hits.
