Boat capsizes, boys rescued from Otter Tail River
BRECKENRIDGE, Minn. - Three boys had to be rescued from the Otter Tail River on Monday night after their hunting boat capsized.
The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. east of Breckenridge.
According to a release from the Wilkin County Sheriff's Office:
The three juveniles were hunting on the river when their boat's trolling motor quit.
The boys tried to grab on to a log, but the flat-bottom boat turned sideways in the current, struck another log and capsized, throwing all three boys into the river.
Two of the boys were able to climb on to a log in the river while the third boy swam to shore and called for help.
Rescuers using a Breckenridge Fire Department boat were able to locate the two boys using their voices.
All three boys were treated for hypothermia at the scene and were allowed to go home.
The boys - who were all wearing chest waders but not life jackets at the time of the incident - told authorities they had life jackets with them.
Along with the Wilkin County Sheriff's Office, the Breckenridge fire and police departments, the Wahpeton Police Department and Ambulance Services Inc. responded to the scene.
