Boat catches fire on Pelican Lake
No one was hurt when a Fargo woman's boat started on fire on Pelican Lake last Thursday.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office received a report of a boat on fire on the north side of the lake at about 10 a.m. The boat belongs to Linda Butler, 66, of Fargo, N.D.
Original reports said the boat "exploded." However, it was later determined that the boat was having maintenance performed at the time of the fire. Unknown causes started the fire while the boat was being tested after the maintenance work was complete.
No injuries were reported from the incident. The boat was a total loss. The Pelican Rapids Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Later that afternoon, the sheriff's office received further calls that the boat sank during an attempt to tow it from the lake. The Minnesota DNR is handling the investigation and removal of the boat.
