Boys and Girls Clubs to host 3rd annual motorcycle ride
On Saturday, July 12, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Detroit Lakes and Perham will host their Third Annual Ride for the Future motorcycle ride.
The ride is held to raise awareness for after school and summer programming provided to Becker and Otter Tail County youth.
“Last year was a lot of fun,” said Sue Trnka, resource development director for the Detroit Lakes and Perham clubs. “There were 24 bikes and 36 people on our ride last year. Everyone said they had a great time and were happy to connect with the mission of our organization. We hope they all come back this year and bring friends – we want this event to grow each year.”
The purpose of the ride is to celebrate the programs offered to school-aged children at both clubs. Club programming focuses on academic success, healthy life choices, and community and civic involvement. Summer attendance is averaging about 175 children per day at both clubs combined.
Ride for the Future will begin with registration and check-in at the Detroit Lakes City Park, near the pavilion, at 9:30 a.m. Kickstands will go up at 10:30 a.m. and riders will tour an approximately 100-mile scenic route, including a lunch stop at Zorbaz on Otter Tail Lake and a rest stop at the Cormorant Inn. The ride will end at BJ’s Barbecue Shack around 5 p.m. The cost of the ride is $20 per bike and $10 per two-up passenger.
