Boys Basketball: Bears get to the line to defeat Eagles
NEW YORK MILLS -- The Bertha-Hewitt boys basketball used a strong night at the free throw line to take a 69-60 victory over New York Mills Tuesday in Park Region Conference action.
The Bears were 22-27 from the line (81 percent) and were 19-21 in the second half (90 percent) to outscore the Eagles 37-28 after the game was a stalemate at 32 points at halftime.
New York Mills' Charlie Peeters led all scorers with 23 points. Zach Bauch added 15.
Michael Grewe scored 20 points to lead the Bears. Grewe was 5-5 from the line.
New York Mills had a good night from the line, also. The Eagles shot 75 percent but did not get to the line nearly as often as the Bears. New York Mills made nine of 12 attempts.
Preston Riewer was 7-8 from the stripe and led the Bears with 18 points.
Jordan Frethem was 6-8 from the line and scored 15 points.
Bertha-Hewitt is 8-10 overall and tied for fourth place in the PRC with Verndale at 5-4.
The Eagles fall to 3-13 overall and reside in a sixth place tie with Sebeka at 1-8.
