Boys Basketball: Eagles drop two; Snelgrove within reach of 1,000
Rebuilding years can be difficult, as it has been in New York Mills, as the boys basketball team dropped games to Bertha-Hewitt and Henning to lower their record to 0-10 in the Park Region Conference and 1-16 overall.
The road gets even more difficult next Thursday, Feb. 9 as the Eagles travel to #6-1A Ulen-Hitterdal.
The Trojans have three players who will surpass 1,000 career points this week and the Eagles will be arriving with one of their own.
Given the team's struggles with only two seniors, one of who, Sam Slieter, missed the majority of the first half of the season, there has been little to cheer about with NY Mills basketball other than the efforts of Adam Snelgrove.
Snelgrove poured in 19 points against Bertha-Hewitt and 20 versus Henning to come within nine points of career point 1,000.
According to a recent feature story by Ryan S. Clark, of the Fargo Forum, Ulen-Hitterdal senior Troy Peterson has already reached the 1,000-point milestone.
Peterson's teammates, Landon Schultz and Neil Henrickson, both juniors, are also in reach. Schultz is eight points shy of 1,000 while Henrickson is 26 points shy.
While the Eagles will be hard-pressed to match up with the state-ranked Trojans in Ulen next Thursday. The game will feature four 1,000-point scorers after a few Snelgrove buckets, which he will, assuredly, get.
Look for coverage of that game online at eotfocus.com next week and in the February 16th print version of the FOCUS.
Snelgrove's achievement will make two successive years for 1,000 point scorers in New York Mills. Last season, Isaiah Bauck reached the career milestone in late January.
