Boys Basketball: Eagles fall to Ulen-Hitterdal, Verndale
Perham Minnesota 222 2nd Avenue SE 56573

The New York Mills boys basketball team hung with the No. 5-ranked Ulen-Hitterdal Spartans thanks to a big first half by Adam Snelgrove, but ultimately, the Spartans were too much for the Eagles in a 75-56.

Snelgrove scored 18 of his 23 points in the first 18 minutes, including his 1,000th career point with 10 minutes remaining until halftime.

"Adam has been one of our team leaders all season," Head Coach Bryan Dunrud said.

His accomplishment made Snelgrove the fourth player on the floor with 1,000 points and the fifth in the building with last year's 1,000-point scorer from NY Mills, Isaiah Bauck, in attendance.

Spartans Troy Peterson, Landon Schultz and Neil Henrickson were on the floor with the same grand totals.

Charlie Peeters played a strong second half scoring 10 of his 14 points in the latter frame.

However, the tandem of Peterson and Schultz, 20 and 22 points respectively, combined with scoring from seven other players was too much for NY Mills.

Verndale 69, NYM 49

Snelgrove drained five three-pointers and Damon Tumberg added three from behind the arc, but four Pirates in double figures did more damage for Verndale in a 69-49 victory Friday night in NY Mills.

Tumberg finished the night with 13 points and Peeters added 11.

The Eagles held a one-point advantage at halftime up 26-25.

All of Tumberg's threes came in the first half. Four of Snelgrove's five long balls came in the second half.

Leading scorer, Verndale's Josh Gilb, scored 13 of his 21 points leading a 44-23 run in the second half for the win.

The Eagles made as many threes as they did field goals, eight each. While Verndale made three less from behind the arc, they tallied 21 field goals to make up the difference and then some.
