PERHAM — The Hawley Nuggets boys golf team won their fourth consecutive tournament in four tries and Perham and Barnesville continued to follow suit with runners-up and third place finishes at the Heart O’ Lakes Conference meet held here Thursday.

Cody Cook, Andrew Cook and Willy Tickel shot low rounds to sweep the top three finishes. Cody Cook won by four strokes (75) over Andrew Cook and Tickel who both shot 79.

Nick Bahls of Perham finished fourth with an 83. Peter Sauvy of Barnesville was fifth with an 84 followed by Blake Kunza’s 85 for sixth place.

Hawley defeated Perham by 26 strokes 321-347 on the Yellowjackets' home course. Perham held off Barnesville by two strokes (349). The Frazee Hornets, having not finished above sixth place this season, played their best meet of the year with a fourth place score of 375.

The victory nearly assures the regular season conference title for Hawley with only three meets remaining, all of which will occur next week bringing a swift and very busy end to the golf regular season.

Hawley has four points, Perham eight and Barnesville 12. Points are awarded to each team based on placement in each conference tournament. First place gets one point, eighth place receives eight. Hawley has the minimum points possible with four.

Hawley could be caught in the standings but it would take more than one meet collapse from the Nuggets and a sweep of the three remaining tournaments by Perham or Barnesville.

The conference tournament will be held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes. Section play begins Wednesday, May 29 in Park Rapids.
