The Lakers (1-4-1) controlled the puck in the form of 41 shots on goal to Park Rapids’ 26, but Panther goalie Cody Brumbaugh was up to the task with 38 saves for the win.

The Lakers outshot the Panthers 19-6 in the third period, producing one goal by forward Ryan Deconcini on a power play effort, with assists by Wilson Lysford and Jon Richards.

But the Lakers couldn’t break through for the tying tally, losing 4-3.

DL goalie MacKenzie Steele had 22 saves.

The Lakers held a 2-1 lead after the first period on a pair of Richards’ goals, one a power play score, but the Panthers countered with a goal in the first period by Connor Kennedy (power play).

A decisive second period notched three goals by the Panthers (2-1-0), from Luke Jaeger, Bailey Mueller and Kennedy.

Park Rapids outshot DL 11-9 in the second period.

Steele recorded his first shutout of the season against Prairie Centre, snuffing out 20 shots.

Laker defenseman Brandon Olson scored the game’s lone goal 11:05 into the first period, on assists by Jacob Fritz and Sam Boomgarden.

The rest were held by DL’s defense and Steele.
