Bruce Pagel, age 74 of Vining, MN died Sunday June 7, 2009 at his home on East Battle Lake. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday June 12, 2009 at the Vining Lutheran Church in Vining with Pastor Dick Kennedy officiating. Music will be provided by Mary King, organist, with vocal music by the Vining Lutheran Church Choir. Interment will be in the Vining Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11 at the Belmont Funeral Home in Henning.
Bruce Robinson Pagel was born on March 6, 1935 in Hutchinson, MN, the son of August and Beatrice (Robinson) Pagel. He grew up in Bird Island, MN where he attended high school and was active in many sports--particularly basketball. He earned his teaching degree and played basketball at Macalaster College in St. Paul. After college, he taught and coached at Balaton, MN. He was married on June 20, 1959 to Carol Ann Carlson in Lakota, ND. Following their marriage, he and Carol taught in Detroit Lakes, MN for two years. They moved to Blue Earth, MN in 1962 where Bruce taught and was head basketball coach. In 1970 they moved to Hopkins, MN where Bruce taught and coached until retirement. While in Hopkins, Bruce was the assistant boys basketball coach and later the girls basketball head coach. In 1998 Bruce and Carol moved to Vining where Bruce was a member of the Sons of Norway and a former member of the Vining Lutheran Church council.
Bruce is survived by his wife: Carol; a son: David (Dina) Pagel, Duluth, MN; daughters: Amy (Greg) Glomski, Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, and Angie (Scott) Endo, Minneapolis, MN; sisters: Janice (Charles) Wally, Vining, and Judy (Clint) Ewald, St. Paul, MN; and his grandchildren: Emily, Gus, and Benjamin Glomski; and Lily, Ella, and Mohali Endo.
