Perham graduates Jillian Burns and Sam Salathe contributed to the Univeristy of Minnesota-Morris' best ever finish at the Liberal Arts Championships Saturday.

Burns broke the school record in the mile swim.

The University of Minnesota, Morris swimming and diving team finished in third place matching the school's best finish.

They went into the day in fourth place, six points behind Loras College but erased the deficit early. They would go on to earn 418 points, 33 points better than their 2013 finish.

The night started with the longest race of the meet, the 1650-yard freestyle. Burns finished 13th, the best of three Cougars in the race, with a time of 19:31.04. Tori Brua was 15th and Jessica Fischer finished 17th. In the 200-yard backstroke Tia Volkers led the way with an 11th place finish, two spots ahead of teammate Salathe. Abby Donnay took 15th in the same race.

Kaitlin Kamm took second 100-yard freestyle, just a half second behind the first place finisher. Courtney Kahnk finished 10th and Sarah Dens was 14th in the "B Final" of the 100-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard breaststroke Kayla Gastecki took sixth in the "A Final". Her teammate Tasha Miller was 10th in the "B Final".

In the final solo race of day Kayla Kranitz took tenth in 200-yard butterfly. Teammates Jessica Fischer and Hanna Gasaway took 11th and 12th respectively. The 400-yard free relay team finished off the meet with a third place finish thanks to the efforts of Kahnk, Natalie Reynen, Dens and Kamm. They clocked in with a time of 3:41.01.
