Burton Wallgren 1937-2012
Funeral services were held for Burton Wallgren, 75, of New York Mills on Jan. 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with Pastor Harvey Johnson officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation and accompanied by Laura Hayes and Janell Brakel. The pallbearers were Brian Ehnert, Tom Wallgren, Blaine Wallgren, Mark Imsande, Jim Crawford and Bob Crawford. Military honors were provided by the Charles D. Center VFW Post #3289 of New York Mills. Burt was laid to rest in St. John's Cemetery in Bluffton, Minn.
Burton Carl Wallgren was born on June 1, 1937 in Blowers Township, rural Sebeka, Minn., to Hugo and Cora (Imsande) Wallgren. Burt grew up on the family farm in Blowers Township and graduated from Sebeka High School with the class of 1955. He proudly served in the United States Army as company clerk from Oct. 22, 1958 to Oct. 11, 1960. On Jan. 7, 1961, Burt was united in marriage to Carolyn Tisdell at St. John's Catholic Church in Bluffton. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Joy and Jon.
Burt was employed at Lund Boats for a short time and was employed by Parta Printing for 40 years, retiring on June 1, 2002. He served for 25 years on the New York Mills Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, hunting and caring for his family. He served as a trustee at Trinity Lutheran Church, volunteered at the food shelf and Lakeland Hospice. Burt passed away at the Elders' Home in New York Mills on Dec. 30, 2012. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Preceding Burt in death were his parents; brothers, Merle Wallgren and Kenneth Wallgren; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jim Martin; and sister, Shirley Wallgren.
Burt is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wallgren of New York Mills; daughter, Joy (Brian) Hayes of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; son, Jon (Kristy) Wallgren of East Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren, Teresa Hayes, Laura Hayes, Megan Wallgren and Jenna Wallgren; sister, Carol (Ron) Ehnert of New York Mills; sisters-in-law, Delores Wallgren and Lillian Wallgren of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.
