The New York Mills volleyball team finished a stretch of seven matches in nine days, including five at a weekend tournament in Pelican Rapids.

The Eagles went 2-2-1 in five two-game matches at the tournament defeating Rothsay and Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 2-0. Lake Park-Audubon and host Pelican Rapids took 2-0 decisions versus NY Mills and the Eagles tied Battle Lake 1-1 to round out the day's play.

Park Region conference play began Thursday versus Henning. The Hornets swept the Eagles 3-0, by scores of 25-19, 25-8 and 25-20.

"We had a slow start, made a comeback but a little too late," Head Coach Amy Koskela said.

Taylor Geiser led the way with seven kills and nine digs. Tori Kempenich and Ellie Rutten each had six kills and seven digs. Lexie Rankka had 22 assists and six digs. Taylor Plautz had three kills, five blocks and a dig.

"In games one and three we played great defense and put down some nice hits."

The Hornets improved to 8-1 on the season--their only loss coming in the second game of the season to Hancock.

The Eagles dropped a 3-0 match to Waubun Monday. Including tournament play, they have a record of 3-6-1.

The Bombers swept the match by the slimmest of margins: 25-23, 25-23 and 25-21.

Rutten had 10 kills and a block; Geiser seven kills and 10 digs; Kempenich four kills, two aces, a block and eight digs.
