For the first time in its 125-year history, Butler Township will host a community parade on Saturday, July 26.

The parade coincides with the township's 125th birthday, planned by the Butler Township Committee.

Festivities begin with lunch at Holy Cross Church in Butler at noon on July 26. The meal will be held in the fellowship hall. The cost is $6 for adults, free for children age 5 and under.

The community parade will begin at 3 p.m., with the route starting on Highway 148 at the Paul Schik farm.

"We've already got 26 entries lined up so far," Butler Township Committee member Clara Roberts announced, two weeks before the celebration. The New York Mills high school band is scheduled to take part in the parade.

Throughout the day, there will be t-shirts for sale as souvenirs, displays, old machinery, games, buggy rides, picture taking, and lots of food. Friends, family and the general public are all invited to attend this great event.

"We're planning for 500 people," Roberts reported.

Several local musicians will perform live music to dance to. The New York Mills Lions will also have a beer garden set up. At dusk, the evening will conclude with fireworks.
