Three third-inning hits led to four early DL runs and a quick 4-0 lead but the gap was erased quickly on an Andrew Muer grand slam in the fourth.

Alex Guetter, who had retired nine straight Perham batters between last night and this morning, struggled in the fourth.

Four straight walks scored Mac Link, before Muer came to the plate and blasted a pitch over the left field fence into the East Otter Tail County Fair.

Two unearned runs in the fifth stretched the Perham lead to 7-4.

DL would manage one run in the seventh off of reliever Trace Miller. Max Knoll scored from third on a double play fiedlers' choice. Perham answered in the bottom half on a solo shot from Gavin Biegler.

Miller retired DL in order in the final two frames striking out four of the six batters.

Guetter pitched a complete game striking out 10, walking seven and allowing eight runs, six earned.

"We can't hit the ball if we don't swing the bat," DL Head Coach Mitch McLeod said.

Blues 18, Buzz 0

The win set the Buzz up for a meeting with the Moorhead Blues, who came to the loser's bracket by way of a 2-1 defeat to Fergus Falls. A team they would meet in the finals and take a thumping. Fergus Falls captured the District 9 championship with a 20-8 win.

The Blues jumped all over Perham starter David Altstadt, chasing him after only two-thirds of an innng of work. On way to plating 18, the Blues put up 12 runs in the first three innings.

Shawn Stafki raced to the plate for Perham in the second only to be gunned down on a relay throw from Blues right fielder Aaron Ostland to second baseman Brooks Miller and finally to the catcher John Cahill, who applied the tag for the out.

The play was close but Stafki was out by little doubt.

FF 7, Buzz 6

The eventual champions from Fergus Falls squeezed by Moorhead 2-1 in round two of the tourney to face the Buzz.

Both teams game into the game with two wins under their belts to no losses.

Fergus took a 5-0 lead by the third inning and looked ready to cruise past the hosts.

The top three Buzz batters Mac Link, Taylor Doll and Gavin Biegler had something else up their sleeves.

The trio scored consecutive runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 6-5 lead that would last to the ninth.

Andrew Muer's eight innings on the mound was stellar work and he gave way to ace Brad Ellingson for the save in the ninth.

The Fergus leadoff batter reached on a base hit before Ellingson induced Spencer Kidder and Dan Revering into lazy fly balls to left and centerfield.

With two away, Boyden Lee stepped in and drilled an Ellignson offering into the fairgrounds for a stunning 7-6 come from behind win leaving Ellingson behind the Buzz dugout with his head in his hands.
