Candidate forum focuses on sustainable food
The Slow Food Lakes & Prairie chapter is sponsoring a Food and Agriculture Forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 30, in Legacy Hall on the Fergus Falls campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.
The forum is designed to give voters an opportunity to learn where the area's state and national candidates stand on the subject of sustainable food. Invited candidates include those from District 7 U.S. House, District 10 State Senate, District 10A State House and the Minnesota gubernatorial race.
The Lakes & Prairie chapter, based in Fergus Falls, is a member of Slow Foods USA, whose mission is to create dramatic and lasting change in the food system by reconnecting Americans with the people, traditions, plants, animals, fertile soils and waters that produce our food.
The moderator for the Food and Agriculture Forum will be Kent Solberg, a sustainable grass-based dairy farmer from Verndale and an instructor in M State's Sustainable Food Production program. The Slow Food Lakes & Prairie chapter is collaborating with the Sustainable Food Production program to encourage discussion of issues and needed legislation related to the current food system.
