Celebrate in Ottertail August 7-8--parade, fireworks, street dance

With an antique tractor pull, buggy rides, turtle races, a street dance, fireworks, and much more, this year's Otter Fest celebration promises to be a delightful weekend for people of all ages.

The city celebration kicks off on Friday, August 7, with a demo derby at 7 p.m. The derby is held in Ottertail city's demo area, south of the water tower, off of Highway 108. The Ottertail Rod & Gun Club Annual Demo Derby contact person is Jeff Moen at 218-371-1904.

On Saturday, August 8, events are planned from morning until late at night. As a part of the annual tradition, the Ottertail Lions Club will hold their pancake and sausage breakfast at the community center from 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

The highlight of the Otter Fest celebration, the big parade, starts at 11 a.m. Line-up is at 10 a.m. at the water tower. For information, contact Kathy at 218-367-3092.

Throughout the day there will be arts and crafts booths set up, inflatables in the park, and plenty of food, pop, and beer for sale. A special performance by the Heart of the Lakes Community Band is planned at the Fire Hall after the parade.

From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., a car show will be held behind the water tower. The antique and improved antique tractor pull (tractors pre 67 models trucks) will begin at 2 p.m. The contact for this event is Mitch at 218-367-2819.

"Turtle Races by Jane" start at 12:30 p.m. by the park. Also at the park, starting at 1:30 p.m., there will be kids' events, games, and prizes. The kids' activities will continue through the afternoon. Buggy rides are planned courtesy of Shady Oaks Riding Stables.

From 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., Bingo will be played at the Ottertail Community Center. When it nears dinner time, the public is encouraged to take part in the free will donation corn on the cob feed, from 5 - 8 p.m.

Late night activities include a street dance and fireworks. The 10 p.m. fireworks display is sponsored by the Ottertail Lions Club, and is coordinated by Adam Wedde and the Ottertail Fire Department.

Area band Sapphire will provide the entertainment for the Saturday night street dance, from 8:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. IDs are required; and there is a $5 admission fee.
